While Brittney leads the creative direction as Floral Designer, shaping each wedding through her signature garden-inspired, story-driven style, Brandon plays an essential role in bringing each celebration to life through operations and client experience. As a team, they ensure every wedding is both beautifully designed and seamlessly executed.

Can you share the story behind Verzaal’s Florist and how your approach to wedding florals has evolved over time?

Verzaal’s Florist has been part of the Wilmington community since 1931, and carrying that legacy forward is something we take great pride in. What started as a traditional flower shop has grown into a full-service floral and event design company. Over the years, our approach to wedding florals has evolved from simply providing beautiful arrangements to truly curating an experience. Today, it’s about storytelling—designing with intention, understanding each couple’s vision, and creating florals that feel personal, immersive, and reflective of their day as a whole. Each wedding is an opportunity to design an atmosphere that feels layered, immersive, and entirely personal to the couple.

How would you describe your floral design style, and what sets your work apart for couples planning their wedding?

My design style leans toward a loose, airy garden aesthetic with a focus on texture, movement, and natural beauty. I love blending refined elements with organic shapes so designs feel both elevated and effortless. What sets our work apart is the level of customization—we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all packages. Rather than offering preset packages , every wedding is designed from the ground up, tailored to the couple’s vision, space, and priorities. We also focus heavily on thoughtful details and repurposing, ensuring the design flows seamlessly from ceremony to reception while maximizing impact.

What role do florals play in shaping the overall atmosphere and experience of a wedding day?

 Florals are one of the most transformative elements of a wedding. They set the tone the moment guests arrive and help define the overall mood—whether that’s romantic, coastal, modern, or garden-inspired. Beyond just décor, florals create focal points, guide the flow of the space, and add layers of depth and emotion.  When designed intentionally, they become part of the experience itself, not just an addition to it.

How do you collaborate with couples to translate their vision into a cohesive floral design, from concept to execution?

The process is highly collaborative and begins with understanding the couple’s overall vision—often through inspirational imagery, color palettes, or even a general mood. From there, I guide them through design possibilities, asking detailed questions about their venue, layout & priorities.  We build a detailed, customized proposal that evolves as plans come together. As the wedding approaches, we refine and finalize every detail to ensure a seamless execution.  

What advice would you give couples on prioritizing their floral budget to make the greatest impact?

 Focus on moments that naturally draw attention—ceremony installations, statement pieces, and key reception areas. These are the elements that define the visual experience and leave a lasting impression. Repurposing is also an essential strategy; thoughtfully transitioning florals from the ceremony to the reception allows couples to maximize both impact and value. Ultimately, trusting your florist to guide where to invest and where to simplify will result in a more elevated and cohesive design.  A thoughtful, well-balanced design will always have more impact than stretching the budget too thin across too many elements.
