We caught up with Alison to talk about the boutique’s evolution, the trends inspiring the season, and why Lumina Station remains such a special part of Wilmington’s local shopping scene.

Tell us about the inspiration behind Island Passage and how the boutique has evolved.

Over 30 years ago, Island Passage began as a bohemian-inspired boutique that promoted individual self-expression through clothing and accessories. Over the years, we have evolved into a contemporary lifestyle boutique offering a curated mix of clothing, shoes, jewelry, and accessories. Our goal is to provide a memorable shopping experience where customers can discover pieces that reflect their personal style. We want them to look great and feel even better in what they wear.

How would you describe the Island Passage aesthetic, and what sets your collections apart?

We offer a wide range of contemporary brands, complemented by smaller, emerging labels from around the world. We strive to curate an assortment that inspires our multigenerational customer base, encouraging everyone to discover new ideas and creativity for their wardrobes. From classic and contemporary to bohemian and vintage-inspired, we truly have something for everyone, with options at a variety of price points.

Beyond clothing, what other items or accessories can shoppers discover at Island Passage?

Beyond clothing, we offer an extensive selection of beautiful accessories, jewelry, and shoes. For a special gift, whether for yourself or someone else, I recommend exploring Dean Davidson, a Canadian jewelry brand known for its timeless, classic pieces. We are loving the luxurious fabrics this fall, including satin, faux suede, leather, and, of course, lots of faux fur! The color palette is all about earthy neutrals, from chocolate brown and deep burgundy to olive green. These shades offer warmth and depth while remaining versatile and on-trend for the season. We also have all the wardrobe essentials covered, from denim and jackets to blazers and everything in between.

What makes Lumina Station such a special place to shop, dine, and spend time in Wilmington?

Lumina Station is special because of its strong connection to the local community. Most of the shops and restaurants are locally owned and operated, creating a genuine sense of community among the retailers. Many of the boutiques are women-owned businesses that have been serving Wilmington for years.
