Beauty Crew Mobile was born from something simple and meaningful: friendship, trust, and a shared love for being part of life’s most important moments. Co-owners Shelly Shi and Lindsay Webb first found themselves working with many of the same brides, happily saying “yes” to being part of their wedding days. What began as a natural extension of their individual work quickly evolved into something much bigger. After stepping into the energy of wedding mornings—celebrating alongside clients, creating in real time, and helping bring each bride’s vision to life—they recognized both a passion and a gap in Wilmington’s growing wedding scene. In 2016, Beauty Crew Mobile officially launched, offering a modern, on-site approach to bridal hair and makeup that prioritizes ease, artistry, and experience.

As the business quickly grew, Shelly and Lindsay realized they needed a dedicated space to expand their services beyond the wedding day experience. In 2019, they opened Beauty and Bloom, their brick-and-mortar salon and spa located in Wilmington’s South Front District. The space reflects the same welcoming, elevated atmosphere clients had come to love through Beauty Crew Mobile, while allowing the team to offer year-round beauty and self-care services. Shelly brings her expertise as an esthetician and makeup artist, while Lindsay specializes as a hairstylist and makeup artist, creating a well-rounded beauty destination rooted in both artistry and personal connection.
Can you share the story behind The Beauty Crew Mobile and what inspired you to bring on-location beauty services to the Wilmington wedding scene?
Beauty Crew Mobile was born from friendship and a genuine love for our clients. Lindsay and I often shared brides who were getting married, and when they asked us to be part of their wedding day for hair and makeup, we said yes—enthusiastically. It didn’t take long for us to realize how much we loved being onsite, celebrating alongside them and contributing to such a meaningful moment.
In 2016, we officially launched Beauty Crew Mobile after recognizing a real need for on-location beauty services in Wilmington’s busy wedding scene. It felt like a natural progression—one that aligned with how modern couples wanted to experience their wedding morning: relaxed, seamless, and centred on them.
How would you describe your signature approach to bridal hair and makeup, and what sets your team apart on a wedding day?
Our signature approach is elevated, effortless beauty—creating looks that feel polished while still completely authentic to each bride. We focus on delivering an experience that matches her energy, whether that’s calm and grounded or fun and celebratory.
What truly sets us apart is our attention to timing, coordination, and the overall experience. With a team of 20 incredibly talented artists who love weddings as much as we do, there’s a shared excitement that carries through the entire morning. Our goal is always to highlight the bride in a way that feels natural and confident, while creating an environment where she and her party can relax and truly enjoy the moment.
What are some of the biggest advantages for couples in choosing a mobile beauty team for their wedding?
The biggest advantage is ease. Brides get to stay in their own space, surrounded by friends and family—listening to their favourite music, in comfy clothes, maybe sipping mimosas—while we come to them and take care of everything. It sets the tone for a relaxed, joyful start to the day. From a logistics standpoint, onsite services are a game-changer. There’s no worrying about traffic, no coordinating travel times, no one getting lost or delayed. It removes so many potential stress points and allows the morning to flow smoothly.
How do you ensure each bride’s look feels personal, timeless, and true to them while still holding up through a full day of celebration?
It all starts with connection. We always recommend a trial run or at least a consultation so we can really get to know the bride—her skin, her hair, her style, and how she wants to feel on her wedding day. That time allows us to build trust and align on a vision that feels true to her. From there, our experience and expertise come into play. We use high-quality products, professional tools, and tailored techniques to ensure the look not only feels timeless but lasts from the first photo to the final dance. It’s about creating something beautiful that holds up while still feeling effortless.
What advice would you give to brides when preparing for their hair and makeup trials and the wedding morning itself?
For both the trial and the wedding day, come with clean, dry hair and clean, well-moisturised skin. If you have a veil or any hair accessories, bring those along so we can ensure everything fits comfortably and securely. Inspiration photos or mood boards are always helpful—they give us a clear sense of your overall vibe.
In the months leading up to the wedding, we always encourage brides to focus on skin and hair health. Follow your esthetician’s recommendations, stay consistent with your routine, and stay hydrated—those small habits make a big difference. And definitely avoid skin picking.
For hair, regular trims every 12 weeks help maintain healthy ends, whether your hair is long or short. If you’re planning a colour change, work closely with your stylist and follow their guidance for both in-salon treatments and at-home care. Healthy hair and skin create the best foundation for a beautiful, long-lasting bridal look.
